Chapter 20
Rage
The next morning Rage headed to the basement. His brothers stood near a large furnace. One, unlike any other. At least that he knew of.
A massive black metal furnace sat directly in front of him. Today would be the first time theyâd fired it up. They didnât use it to heat the clubhouse. Though, it would be easy for them to convince any law enforcement department otherwise. The furnace existed solely to destroy evidence. In this case, it would be burning the bodies of their enemies to ashes.
An ember demon resided inside the furnace, dormant for now. Once awakened it would need to be fed regularly. Coal, wood, and other burnable materials would be used when the club didnât need to use it for felonious purposes.
Blade, the clubâs VP, arrived last. His head was freshly shaven. Remnants of last nightâs fight showed on his face. He looked around the room before nodding toward the furnace.
âBurn âem. Devil, you, me, and Rage are going to go scouting. After the bodies are burned someone needs to scatter the ashes over the river. The rest of you get to repairing the club. I want it back open by tonight.
âSynne already wiped the civvies minds,â Elvis reported.
âGood.â He turned to Devil and Rage. âLadies, youâre with me.â
Rage smiled and shook his head at the VP. The guy may be a couple inches shorter, but he was one tough son of a bitch and one of the few who could call him a lady without losing any teeth.
His bike sat parked where he left it the night before. All black and perfect. It made Devilâs custom blue and white paint job stand out even more.
âYour bike looks like a vase from the Ming Dynasty.â Rage shook his head at Devil.
âHey, my koi fish are badass. Better than your black, on black, on black, on black fat tire monster.â
âDonât be jealous because mine is bigger than yours.â
âLadies, we donât have time to whip it out and measure whose is bigger. Besides, my new ride is better than both yours,â Blade stated emphatically.
Rage looked to where Blade stood. A brand-new Indian Chieftain Dark Horse edition in chrome and black. âWell, Iâll be fucked you bought a new bike. I mean your last one is what, from1955?â
âItâs called a classic and Iâm looking for a few parts. Letâs ride.â
The three of them took off, heedless of the cold January air. Unseasonably low temperatures had blanketed the region in its wintery grasp, surprising many and catching them off guard.
Shifters ran hotter than normal humans, providing the extra warmth needed for todayâs freezing ride. Rage made a mental note to get Desiré a warmer winter coat. As a cursed shifter, she had few of the benefits he did. He didnât want her to get cold on the back of his bike.
Torque led them far from the clubhouse and away from White Horse. Though the Twisted often liked to hide in plain sight the town didnât have enough population for them to blend in with.
